Active and Passive Networking
Micronova’s approach to solution designing involves the below components.
Passive Network Components
It is now pretty common to use structured cabling for interconnecting the various active devices within an IP network. The commonly used passive components in an IP Network for structured cabling are listed below:
Cat 6 UTP (Un-shielded Twisted Pair) Copper Cables
– These are the network cables that link PC/endpoint to a switch in the network. They are also often used to provide interconnectivity between switches when the distance is less than 90 meters. When the distance is greater than 90 meters, the support of a repeater for data transmission is required (repeater function is enabled by using network switches).
Cat 6 UTP Patch Cords
These are factory 1 or 2 meter crimped cables with RJ-45 connectors installed on both ends. It is not recommended that the Cat 6 cables be terminated directly either in the network switch or at the PC or endpoint. Only the patch cords terminate on both devices and connect via I/O Box and UTP patch panel to the Cat 6 Network cable.
I/O Box and Face Plate
A UTP patch cord is used for connecting Face Plate with the PC’s network port. Both I/O Box and Face Plate are placed in close proximity to the computers. Behind the I/O Box, The CAT 6 UTP cable coming from the switch terminates into a permanent connection.
UTP Patch Panel
To find out terminating all the CAT 6 cables that come from various endpoints/PCs within the network (I/O Box) to the rack, UTP Patch Panel is used. These are permanent connections behind the UTP Patch Cords connect and UTP Patch Panel in front of the network switches from their respective ports. With this, flexible movement, adds and changes without any disturbances to the switch ports. Every port within the patch panel is labeled so that it becomes easy to identify the nodes they are connected to.
Optical Fiber Cables (OFC)
These cables are used to carry data more than 90 meters range. Unlike electrical signals used by UTP cables, Optic Fiber Cables use light for data transmission. Without having to repeat the signals in between, these cables can carry data for longer distances and sometimes a few kilometers. Basically, these cables are of two types- Single and Multi-Mode cables. Single-mode cables are used for long-distance and high bandwidth connections while multi-mode is used for short distances. These are connected directly to the Fibre Patch Panel at both ends. Generally, they come in the multiples of 6 cores i.e., 6, 12, and 24 which are common. Two cores are will be used for every connection – one for receiving and the other for transmitting data.
Active Networking Components
Active networking involves bringing together the individual components of a smart grid by using user-friendly software to monitor and control the activities of these devices.
Network Switches
Network Switches are critical for designing any network design as it is responsible for connecting all the devices on LAN (Local Area Network) to allow redirecting and forwarding data to the correct destination.
Switches are of two types:
Unmanaged Switches allows you to instantly plug-and-play devices into your network. They are simple to use and are utilized for connecting Ethernet devices with a fixed configuration. Fixed-configuration limits you from adding temporary groups of systems to a larger network. Unmanaged switches are often used in smaller networks.
Managed Switch provides its user with great control as they can be managed, configured, and used in monitoring the settings of your LAN. Not just that, it also provides users with better control and management of traffic by prioritizing channels and creating new virtual LANs to segregate smaller groups of devices.
Smart Switches
Smart switches are also called Intelligent switches that allow you to segment the network into workgroups by creating VLANs. They offer security such as 802.1x endpoint authentication and support basic QoS (quality of service) to facilitate the prioritization of users and applications.
Layer 3 Switches/Chassis
Every client today requires higher bandwidth, scalability, convergence, interoperability. Micronova offers switching solutions tailored to the needs of the customers.
Firewalls/UTM For Perimeter Security
As the network grows and from a closed loop to more open and sophistication, threats from within and outside grow exponentially. Any company that depends on its IT infrastructure for its business has to have robust security that meets the company’s needs for which firewalls are required.

FAQ'S
What is IT system integration?
System integration is the process of combining multiple individual IT subsystems or their components into a single system. It involves linking of different IT systems – virtual as well as physical components to act as one.
This is done to ensure better communication within the organization and to achieve optimum efficiency.
What are the components involved in designing a Wi-Fi network?
Controllers, access points, cables, firewalls, and switches
Controllers, access points, cables, firewalls, and switches
Establishing connections between the network without the help of cables is called wireless networks. This is done using radio waves for communication and data transfer between the network nodes. The devices are connected to the network and can be accessed within the network coverage
